Field experiments and mechanics of Earth-material failure.
Brad Lipovsky is an Assistant Professor in the University of Washington Department of Earth and Space Sciences and founder of the UW FiberLab. A modeler and field scientist, he combines dense fiber-optic sensing with mechanics to test how Earth materials fracture, deform, and fail in systems ranging from engineered hydraulic fractures to glacier beds, ice shelves, and ice–ocean boundaries.
